The Pittsburgh Youth Chorus & Hill Dance Academy Theatre are thrilled to co-present the youth premiere of CROSSINGS, a choral ballet celebrating its 30th Anniversary. CROSSINGS was written by composer and performer Ysaÿe Barnwell and choreographer, writer, and filmmaker David Roussève.
CROSSINGS is a coming-of-age story - told through dance, vocal music, and spoken word - of a young Black woman growing up “Uptown” and confronting racism in her community. It is a story of empowerment, highlighting the value of inner strength and the importance of cultivating beauty in the way we see ourselves and our community.
Tickets are pay-what-you-can, but advanced registration is required. PYC’s 2021-2022 COVID-19 Special Event Policy will be in place for the event.
Audience Advisement: In telling the story of CROSSINGS, the audience will experience images of loss and grief and three references to the N-word.
Thank you to the following funders, supporters, and partners: Opportunity Fund, Erie Insurance, Duolingo, American Eagle Outfitters Foundation, WESA/WYEP, The Wilson Group, Pittsburgh CAPA, Folk Quilts, Crew Productions, and Northway Community Church.
